A new version of AmazonSimpleAdmin is online! This one is ready for the upcoming changes in the Amazon webservice API which was tested today and caused some errors with the old version.
The feature description from the official Changelog:
- Fix: Update to API version 2011-08-01. The associate tag is now mandatory!
- New: Support of Amazon Italy, Spain and China
- New: With this version comes a backup mechanism for your custom templates. Further updates should keep your custom files.
- Fix: Fixed a bug in rendering placeholder $AmountSaved->FormattedPrice
The new backup mechanism of your custom templates will first take effect after this update, so you should backup your custom files for one last time.

Another advice: If you update the plugin manually (by uploading the files via FTP), be sure to empty the cache. It could be that the faulty content is still cached.

The update uses the new link style that is directly returned by the Amazon webservice. Your tag is also included, you see mine is hhessededasher-21. If you generate a link manually with the Amazon webmaster tools, you get a similar one, like eg https://www.amazon.de/dp/B005908VZC/?tag=hhessdedasher-21

1: I can not say exactly. I’ve read that Amazon switches to the new API version on 25th October. But I am not completely sure about that.
2: I think this link style will still work. I will try to get some more information about the associate link style topic.

Safe to say I had a mild panic when the changes went live for 4 hours yesterday. I inadvertently created more work for myself by requesting new API keys, D’oh!

Speaking of new features, I was messing about with the API in PHP last night and noticed that sometimes Amazon groups products like shoes together (sizes, prices etc).
I can’t find any sort of ASIN for the group of products, only singular ones that have been grouped together.
Am I missing something or is this a limitation in the Amazon API?
